Shane has been right 3x's now...and as Jason mentioned before the barn scene was like a band-aid, it almost had to happen that way. And he's right about sending this guy off as well...

Darryl lashing out was too far...but he's definitely hurting and I like the relationship between the two that's growing. I'm curious to see which direct they take it.

I'm glad Herschel said what he said to Shane. It had to be said.

But at the exact same time, Shane is right...per the usual, though as Andrea alluded to, his approach sucks 9/10 times.

Rick was in a tough situation there in the bar, and honestly, I respect him for it. He shot it straight, and I can dig that!

Can't wait.

That looks pretty sick, and seems to have a bit of a Resident Evil feel to it. And yes, the Dead Island trailer was far different than the actual tone of the game.

@RenerdBishop Dammit, I meant to read this on the podcast but I forgot to pull comments from the site before we recorded. I think you're absolutely right - except after last night's episode I think maybe Herschel may have a few surprises in him. But yeah, Rick did what was needed in the moment and there was very little question (at least in my mind) that he did the right thing. Shane is reactive - sometimes his methods are effective, but I wouldn't trust he'd always do the best thing.

@RenerdBishop Yeah! Thanks. Apparently we might be in for an exclamation-point-heavy sentence for the rest of the season, which is all right with me. I loved last night's episode, and thought they managed to keep things tense and pay attention to character at the same time.

Makes me think, I've talked about pacing, but I wonder if I'd like it if all the episodes were as tense as last night's. Just about every episode of Lost was tense and I thought that worked great. But then again "tension-heavy" doesn't have to equal "zombie-heavy," and I'm also fine with good, engaging episodes that don't have many (or any) zeds.

Jason, just want to say that I love your expression about the use of zombies in The Walking Dead. It's true. The characters are the sentence, and the zombies are punctuation.

What I think is important in the scene is the unspoken interaction between Rick and Herschel AFTER Rick takes his shots. First and Foremost, to our knowledge, this is the FIRST time that Rick has KILLED another human being. Remember he's a small town sherriff, although I can't remember if he killed any of the criminals in the first episode of the first season. What's important about this scene is that it DOES show that RIck is not the man that Shane thinks he is. Rick is prepared to do whatever is needed to help people. whereas Shane is thinking about Shane. Shane THINKS he is doing what is best for the group but clearly only if it follow his own interests.

This shootout happens in front of Herschel which is like a physical manifestation of the epiphany that he has. This is not the world that it once was. Herschel needed to see Rick in action because he needed to see that Rick is the sort of man that can do the things to protect Herschel's family that Herschel, because of his beliefs, cannot.

It also shows us Rick is a badass
